A Perfect Stay at House of Straw - A Hidden Gem in Amsterdam!

Frank and Merel’s House of Straw is absolutely fantastic! Tucked away on a peaceful, tree-lined residential street, it feels safe and serene, yet it’s only about 15 minutes from the city centre. The location couldn’t be better - just a quick two-minute stroll to Tram 26, which takes you directly to Amsterdam Centraal.

The house has the perfect balance between comfort and privacy. Although it’s a family home, guests have their own quiet space, and Frank and Merel are the most welcoming hosts you could hope for - warm, kind, and always happy to help or share a friendly chat.

Our room was immaculate, beautifully cosy, and the bed was heavenly - crisp white cotton linens, soft pillows, and the kind of comfort that makes you want to linger a little longer. The en-suite bathroom was spotless and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed - fresh towels, toiletries, and a hair dryer.

We also appreciated the extra touches: free Wi-Fi, a coffee machine, kettle, and a mini fridge in the room, as well as a hallway cupboard stocked with maps, reading materials, and other little travel essentials you might have forgotten.

If you’re looking for a peaceful, comfortable, and beautifully hosted place to stay in Amsterdam, we highly recommend House of Straw!

I stayed at Huis van Stro (House of Straw) on a rainy weekend in October. The B&B sits on a beautiful, tranquil, tree-lined street just a few tram stops away from Centraal Station.

From the moment we arrived, Frank welcomed us warmly and shared helpful travel tips. Later, we bonded with Merel over our mutual love of houseplants, and learned that her name means “blackbird” in Dutch. Both of them were kind, attentive, and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.

The attention to detail throughout the house is remarkable. Intricate hardwood floors, soft, boundless natural light, and charming wall cutouts revealing the straw within the foundations - all unique and beautiful touches. The space is spotless, well managed, and wonderfully quiet. The beds are delightfully comfortable, and the room had everything we needed: coffee, tea, biscuits, Wi-Fi, and deliciously scented shower gel.

Wir haben hier ein paar Tage übernachtet und waren rundum zufrieden.
Die Lage ist super – nur 13 Minuten mit der Straßenbahn zum Amsterdamer Hauptbahnhof, ruhig und angenehm gelegen.
Ein großes Dankeschön an den Gastgeber Frank – unglaublich freundlich und hilfsbereit, hat uns sogar einen günstigen Parkplatz in der Nähe gezeigt.
Das Zimmer ist klein, aber sehr gemütlich und liebevoll eingerichtet, sauber und mit vielen originellen Details (besonders das Badezimmer mit den schönen Fliesen).
Kaffeemaschine, Getränke in der Minibar – alles da, was man braucht.
Dank der natürlichen Materialien wirkt das Zimmer hell und luftig, selbst nachts konnte man gut atmen – warm und frisch zugleich.
Insgesamt eine stilvolle, saubere und gemütliche Unterkunft in einem tollen Viertel, mit einem herzlichen Gastgeber. Absolut empfehlenswert! 💛

The room is tiny but has everything you need - neat as a pin - perfectly clean and bedding is pure cotton (which is important to me). Frank and Merle are perfect hosts - kind and helpful. Checking in was easy and staying there is a pleasure. Will be back for a third time in the future!
