Roberts Cottages - Oceanside, California

Been driving/walking/skating/biking/motorcycling/jogging past these icons for over 50 years. I bring visitors down along the Strand. They can't believe that we can actually drive so close to the sand, and that people can rent a place, right on the sand, too.

I see the cost to rent these has remained quite reasonable, compared to the high rises 2 blocks inland. Actually, these are about half the cost, and you get so much more here.
I remember my dad telling me, back in the mid/late 1960's about how these little red houses reminded him of those red hotels in a Monopoly game. He also told me these were here when his family would camp in a "tent city" by the pier, back in the mid 1930's. They would spend their whole Summer here.

I remember when some of these were painted different colors. The people had a tizzy. They wanted it, how they "used to be." A compromise was struck. Walls will be uniform, but the window frames and front doors can be different. So, they are.

Couldnt have asked for a better place to spend a few nights in Oceanside. We stayed in #8, which I believe is privately owned. Had everything you need, chairs, umbrellas, dishes, solo cups!! It was beyond perfect. Such a great location, 5 steps to the stand. And tons of places within walking distance. Cant imagine staying anywhere else now.
